wie ihr wisst, ist twoleftfeet.ch immer wieder für überraschungen zu haben. sicher stöbern viel von euch magazine durch mit atemberaubenden bildern. hinter diesen bildern stehen fotografen aus der ganzen welt, die täglich pros bei ihren abenteuern begleiten. ab heute wollen wir euch diese leute hinter der kamera ein wenig näher bringen. wir beginnen die neue interview-serie mit dean blotto gray, der sicher schon einigen von euch ein begriff ist. blotto ist der hausfotograf von burton und ist auf der ganzen welt bekannt.

tell us who you are and where you come from?
blotto: dean blotto gray, originally from phoenix, arizona, usa; now living in burlington, vermont, usa.

how did it all began with you as a photographer?
i was part owner of a small snowboard company. we couldn’t afford to pay for ads, so one of us had to become the photographer, the other the graphic designer. i chose the camera, my buddy took care of the website and catalogs.

which riders/crews do you accompagne?
burton snowboards.

if you have a shooting – are you well prepared and know how the pictures should look like or is it more freestyle?
50% of the time we’re setting up shots for ads and catalogs. the other 50% it’s pure documentation of the happenings around me.

do you use a sketchbook for your ideas?
no.

do you have something like a favourite spot to shoot?
europe, washington state or alaska

do you have a publication of photos from you, you specially remember?
a hard cover book called: 28 day winter (powerhouse books nyc).

is there an unfinished project you would like to realize in the future?
a book with photographer cole barash.

guess, you have only one photo left for the rest of your life. which motive would it be?
snowboarding for sure...i couldn’t pick just one shot though!

rail because of the man made structures.

i like both equally well.

do’s and dont’s as a photographer?
help the riders prepare their terrain. don’t show up to the session with your camera equipment not completely charged and ready to go.
